Benefits

Fairer Representation

Since the people involved will have more say about the people that they choose to be representing them. Finally there will be a group of students from different social background and this will turn KSU into a multicultural entity.

Wider Representation

There will be a wider representation of the people on campus as small university entities will be able to attempt  to gain representation in KSU. Variety will in the end help KSU understand better the plight of the students and bring it more in touch with the current student population.

Wider Participation

In the end by changing this system we will be able to bring the council closer to the students. This will lead to an increase in the student participation rate since they will be able to feel personally involved.

Enhance Democracy

The system is being used in developed counties around the world such as New Zealand, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Scotland and Wales. These countries use the system we are suggesting in order to enhance the current election so as to improve on the already existing democratic election.

Kicking Party Politics out of Campus

One of the main aims that Pulse as an organisation is championing is the idea that students should kick party politics out of Campus. The electing population are the students and as such it is to these people that the student organisations should look at.

Encourage the Participation of other Organisations

This particular system will help organisations other than those that are political to contest the election and become a part of the system in KSU. This will also result in an improved participation level from the students of the university.

Easy to Implement

Since it is quite similar to the current situation with regards to the vote-counting aspect there will be no major changes and as such this makes it easy to implement. The biggest change will be made with regards to the representation of aspect of it all.

Winner-takes-it-all

This principle would be eradicated to create a system that would value the validity of opposing organizations’ votes. It is a system that gives the majority the right of representation and at the same time offering the same right to the rest; it is a process that would still respect majority but gives the say the minority ought to have.
