This isn’t about left vs. right ... It’s about one student, one vote, one value. It’s about a level playing field in student politics |

The University Students’ Council (KSU) is composed of eleven members who are annually elected. The council is to serve the role of maintaining students’ rights and implement the electoral programme being elected on.
In this respect the current electoral system is not being effective enough to address the need of having a council that truly represents the thousands of students attending the UOM. The First-Past-the-Post System results in a winner-takes-all situation whereby those who fail to form part of the majority will fail to nominate a representative.
The current electoral deficit is hindering student representation and limiting participation. KSU ought to opt for a Proportional Representation system to open up for a wider range of ideas and further participation. The contesting teams in a Mixed-Member-Proportional system will be allocated seats proportionally in order to reflect the number of votes successfully garnered. Surely, this will enhance democracy and further widen student representation. We want you to participate, make your voice heard and be represented! |
